HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!Radio) 10/5/2011 – “My grandmother has a blackmail cassette of me singing a song called Razzle Dazzle at the age of six stashed somewher,” says R&B singer-songwriter L Young..”I actually heard it once. For a six-year-old I had some chops. I also taught myself to play piano at the age of 11.”

Young has released three alums: Love Is A Verb, The 12th Letter in 2007 and They Just Don’t Know in 2004. He writes his own music, lyrics and melody. His many credits include co-writing the Top 10 single and title track off Jessy J’s #1 Billboard debut album Hot Sauce, released Sept. 2011. He did songwriting and production on KeKe Wyatt’s 2010 release Who Knew and her 2011 release Unbelievable.

Young is credited for music on TV shows such as BET’s The Game, Girlfriends, ABC’s According To Jim, 20/20 and USA Network’s Burn Notice.

“I’ve been performing professionally since I was 11 years old,” says Young. “I’ve been told I was singing as early as three.Young’s first time on stage was the part of Gabriel in the musical Shenendoah at a regional dinner theater near my hometown called Derby Dinner Playhouse. It was also the first time I realized that people can actually make a living at this performing thing and that I was good enough to convince somebody to pay me to do it.”

“I would have to say Michael Jackson is my idol,” says Young. “As cliche’ as that may sound, he’s had a profound effect on my music and performing life.”

Young says he hopes to work with Stevie Wonder some day. “I kinda already had the pleasure of this dream performance twice while we were in the studio taking a break from songs we were recording. We always had impromptu jam sessions at the piano. I would love to take that to the stage for the world to see.”

“I pray every lyric, melody, and note I play is inspired by God,” says Young. “And I’m not talking about gospel music or even any particular religion or ideology. I’m talking about speaking to the human experience in a way everyone can universally accept and understand. I’m speaking of love, you could say. We all love, have loved or have the ability to love. Love and God are synonymous in my book.”

Young lives  in Los Angeles. He’s graced the stage with such artists as Stevie Wonder, En Vogue, Patti LaBelle, Toni Braxton, Gladys Knight, Stanley Clarke, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Teena Marie and Jermaine Jackson.

L. Young’s website. http://lyoungmusic.com lists upcoming performances. Young performs every first Friday of the month at Stevie’s Creole Cafe’ in Encino, CA.  Other locations to find out where Young is performing:
