HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!Radio) 2012/5/17 – “I believe my music to be a fusion of genres,” says folk Pop singer-songwriter Haroula Rose. “There’s a folksy element and a Pop element and also a bluegrass-Americana thing going on. It really depends on what the songs wants, and then it can become its own category I suppose. My perspective on songs is that they kinda know what they want to be, and find their own identity as they evolve and get played out live and then recorded. That whole process is helpful, all those steps, in seeing what and how a song should be. My music is fun to play and sing.”

The music of Haroula Rose is organic, influenced by her experiences, by books, films, emotions, and other music. She says her music doesn’t have a message beyond making people feel good.
“Inspiration is mysterious,” says Rose. “I generally write on the guitar and with a pen and paper, recording a demo so I won’t forget it on my phone. I find that writing can be either way…do the lyrics or music first. When the melody comes first and the words later, it feels more genuine and less labored.”
Rose has started co-writing songs. “That involves a little more thought in terms of structure because you are collaborating,” says Rose. “I have enjoyed singing with Jim White who is also helping produce my next LP. We met at a Ron Sexsmith show in London, backstage, and I was very excited because I’ve been a fan for a long time. So the chance at singing and collaborating is really fun.”
“I like when a song can feel done in one sitting,” says Rose. “That’s magical. But I also feel that, like anything, writing should also be a discipline and setting time aside is very helpful, especially for keeping the shows interesting.”
Rose says she’s been in music for as long as she can remember. “I did choirs and a capella groups too, and musical theater, and had bands growing up.” Rose plays the guitar, violin and piano. She was born in Chicago and grew up in nearby Lincolnwood.
Performances
Haroula Rose has performed in Los Angeles, all over California, in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Austin and Washington D.C. Internationally, she’s performed in Athens and Spain.
Rose will have an EP release show in Los Angeles in June. She expects to be performing in the Bay area soon, but the dates haven’t been announced.
Rose would like to perform with Emmylou Harris someday. “That would be a dream come true,” says Rose. “I think she has the most incredible voice.”
Albums
Rose second EP, So Easy, is releasing on June 4th. She’s already released an EP, an LP and some singles. Rose is an independent artist who uses online distribution and Topspin, bringing her music and merchandise to fans directly. She calls her label Me Myself and I.
