HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!Radio) 2012/7/3 - “Our music is all about a passionate pursuit of truth and a deep expression of love,” says rock singer-songwriter Tracy Thomas, who is the composer and lyricicist of all her band’s songs. “The music comes from a place of embracing struggle and hardship, learning from it, overcoming it, and moving forward…to live transformed lives in order to bring good into the world. It’s also about learning to accept and experience the true love that each one of us was created to receive, to reciprocate that love, and to extend that love to all around us.”

Before the Dawn - Tracy Thomas

Meet the Music host Gabrielle Pantera will interview Tracy Thomas and take callers’ questions on Gosh!Radio. Watch the show live at www.goshradio.com. Gosh!Radio provides callers with local numbers in 15 countries that are listed on the web site. The show broadcasts worldwide on Saturday mornings at 10am Pacific time.

The music of Tracy Thomas is about restoring hope, shining light in dark places, and discovering deep unconditional love.

The Tracy Thomas band is comprised of Tracy Thomas (lead vocal/acoustic guitar),  Johnny Franco (Drums), Simon Huber (cello/bass/background vocals), Yuichiro Kevin Asami (Electric guitar), with Yuhong Ng (keys).

Thomas says she identifies with British music, where her family is from, although she was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Thomas started singing at church and in choirs as a very young child. She took private singing lessons, and started performing in musicals at a young age. She trained in musical theatre, opera, and classical music throughout her teens, then embraced rock in her late teens.

Songwriting

All of the band’s original songs were written by Thomas alone. Her process of songwriting varies. “It just depends on the inspiration and what season of life I’m in. Sometimes I just sit down with my acoustic guitar and noodle through a bunch of different chord progressions and voicings until I come up with something that sits right with me. Sometimes I may grab some lyrics from existing lyrics I’ve written in my lyric book. Or, I might just have an inspiration and spill out a bunch of lyrics over the musical elements I’ve come up with.”

“Most people don’t think of flute when they think of rock music,” says Tracy Thomas. “But the way I play flute is more like a lead electric guitar line, or a string pad on keys, or a violin or cello melody line. It’s very subtle, and adds a deep warmth and etherial atmosphere to the music. It has the effect of creating peace and calm. I love tracking a flute harmony underneath an electric guitar solo, or blending flute harmony parts with string sections.”

Albums

Tracy Thomas released her debut album Before the Dawn in July 2010 in Los Angeles. She’s currently recording a second album, to release in 2013. The music video for her song Shine Your Light On Me will be released later this month.

On Meet the Music, all the songs played will be discussed. Lift Me Up, Pour Out Your Mercy, and Shine Your Light On Me. The songs they’ll play live on Meet the Music are Goodbye, I Would Give Anything, Here I am With You.

Musical Influences

Thomas says her musical influences are Delirious, Tim Hughes, Jesus Culture, Kim Walker, Jeremy Riddle, Phil Wickham, U2, Hillsong United, and her parents. “I grew up listening to the rock genre,” says Thomas. “It’s no wonder I gravitate toward rock in my own music. And electric guitar is my favorite instrument. My dad taught me to play my first chords on his old Gibson SG as well as his Les Paul. I got hooked at a young age. I grew up listening to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, and Pink Floyd.”

Thomas plays many instruments, yet favors the acoustic guitar. “The vibrations and resonance that come out of the instrument mix with the vibrations and resonance coming from my voice,” says Thomas. “It creates this awesome experience, both physically and sonically. The resonance of acoustic guitar also adds a rich, warm tone and texture to the songs. It provides an earthier, natural sound to the music.  I occasionally play piano bass and percussion, nut usually only to come up with ideas and parts  just use those instruments to come up with ideas and parts on scratch recording tracks.”

Performances

Thomas is currently scheduling upcoming performances with her band at The Roxy Theatre, Hotel Cafe, and El Rey Theatre. She recently performed at the Beautiful Justice Unveiling event a PIHOP on June 30th, at the Ascend Malibu Fellowship on July 1st and Fusion Hollywood with the band CIRCLESiGHT on July 2nd.

In addition to her own band, Thomas performs as a solo artist and with other bands. While traveling in Europe she  performed with the British rock band Deepwater Horizon last August, and in October 2010 with a German rock band at the Gospel Forum.

Thomas says the band she’d like most to perform with is the UK band Delirious. “They are my favorite band of all time,” says Thomas. “I connect with their music very deeply, and identify strongly with their lyrical content. Stylistically, I find their music stirring emotionally and spiritually. I can feel their hearts through the music, and their message is what I’m also all about.”

Thomas would like the opportunity to  play with Tim Hughes. “His music has had a major impact on my writing and my own personal spiritual journey,” says Thomas. “I find his lyrical content to express great vulnerability and humility, and have spent countless hours listening to and playing his music. I find his music to be extremely honest, genuine, and heartfelt.”

“It would be an amazing experience to also get to play with Kim Walker and the Jesus Culture Band,” says Thomas. “I find their passion, anointing, and love for God to be completely overwhelming, inspiring, and extremely powerful. Everything about their music stirs my heart to praise God.”

“It would be a great privilege to play with Phil Wickham,” says Thomas. “I recently discovered his music and have been listening to all of his albums over the past year. I find his lyrical content, musical arrangements, and love for God to be a great inspiration.”
