Rock band LotusRoom on Gosh!Radio on Oct. 15thHOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!Radio) 10/12/2011 – “Traveling always inspires me; meeting new people, seeing new places,” says LotusRoom singer-guitarist Landon Short. “Also having Ankylosing Spondylitis. As horrible as it is, it inspires me to get all this moving and always give music my absolute all. It’s like a looming shadow never letting me waste time.” Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic arthritis of the spine and can cause eventual fusion of the spine. Pain may be severe at rest, while physical activity gives some relief.

“I started singing as soon as I got my license and every time I would have a far drive I’d just practice singing my favorite songs at the time,” says Short. He has performed piano and classical guitar since 2006. He also plays drums and a Greek instrument called Bouzouki.

LotusRoom has been jamming and booking gigs for about a year. Keaton Short is the drummer for the band and is Landon Short’s brother. Keaton has been playing drums for ten years, competing in competitions for about three years and started singing lessons less than a year ago. He says that what inspires him is the freedom that exists within music.

As a band that writes their own songs, they “try to create good music and encourage the audience and other musicians to think outside the box,“ says bass and vocalist Travis Taylor. With idols like Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, and Frédéric Chopin, they are well on their way to doing just that.

Like his fellow band members, Taylor began his foray into playing and performing early, with drums and guitar in the 5th and 6th grade, then bass in 8th grade. Taylor credits his introduction to performance and singing to his mom who “was always singing and doing theater.” He says, “I never took it seriously until the last year or two.” In addition to singing and playing bass, Taylor also plays guitar, drums and piano.

Speaking of his inspiration for his music, Landon quotes Jimi Hendrix, “With this music we will paint pictures of earth and space, so that the listener can be taken somewhere.”

LotusRoom is based in Southern California, where Taylor grew up. The Shorts were born in Seattle. When asked who they would like to perform with, Taylor syas, “Foo Fighters and SoundGarden, because they’re two of the last good bands left.” Landon agrees about opening for SoundGarden and adds that opening for Alice in Chains would be a huge honor. “Aside from it being an awesome show, it would mean a lot to me personally because I’ve been listening to their music since I was born, growing up in Seattle in the good ole 90s,” says Landon Short. “They were some of the very first real music I heard a s a kid, so their songs are still very nostalgic to me.”

Travis says that in the words of Plato, “Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination.” Rock on, LotusRoom.
