HOLLYWOOD, CA (Gosh!Radio) 2012/3/1 – Gosh!Radio host Gabrielle Pantera interviewed Michael Masci and took callers’ questions on Meet the Music. Gosh!Radio served callers with local numbers in 15 countries.
“Billy Holiday passed away before being able to record Involved Again so it has been locked away all these years,” says jazz-swing artist Michael Masci. “Jack has given me the rights to record this song and I’m very honored and excited to do so.” Jack Reardon who’s written songs such as The Good Life.
“I take the wonderful songs of the past, and try to add a new, hip sound to them,” says Masci. He recently released an album under his own label Geplen Productions. Available on Amazon and I Tunes with songs influenced by greats such as Harry Belefante, UB40, Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley. Two other albums, Sounds of Seasons and a Christmas CD, feature his eight children and wife, a former actress on the 80s NBC TV show Rags to Riches.
Born in Chester PA, though most of Michaels childhood memories are from living on a farm in Concord PA, growing up for Michael was a “wonderful experience.” Performing with his father, mother, and sister traveling from Atlantic City to Palm Beach Florida and even headlining internationally Michael comes from a background of musical talent. Since age five he has been singing and playing piano but it wasn’t until the age of 16 that both crafts were taken up professionally. “It was a wonderful childhood. Both my parents were entertainers which allowed them to be with my sister and me every day. I have nothing but happy memories about my childhood and the area I grew up in,” Masci states.
Other than his family members Masci has a many number of collaborations with a lot of well known writers such as Michael Lewis, Jack Reardon, and Edward Cooper. Eric Cooper is a song writer-arranger who’s worked with many stars such as Eddie Gorme, Cab Calloway, and Doc Severenson.
“I would love to perform with Randy Newman,” says Masci when asked who he would like to work with in the future.“Since I was a child, there is something about older music that has intrigued me. Randy Newman writes so many brilliant songs. I’m an old
soul and his music touches that part of my being.”
Michael Masci is currently working on a new album to be recorded with a large swing band featuring fun songs from Louis Prima and Louis Jordan.
